    Record Holdings

    Haryana State Archives has in its custody most of the records of the Government for the last one hundred eighty-two years. The regular series of record in its custody commence from the year 1822 and continue right up to1991. The Department completed its first and foremost task of taking over the records from the Punjab State Archives during the year 1976-77. These records constitute major bulk of records of this Archives. Besides, it contains records of Ambala, Hisar and Delhi Divisions for the period from 1857 to 1880.

    The Department also identified and acquired records from the Commissioner’s offices of the Divisions, Deputy Commissioner’s offices of all districts and Superintendents of Police offices of Ambala, Gurgaon and Rohtak districts. These are the most prominent records having bearing on the role of Haryana in the National Movement. These records include English, Confidential and Secret records. The Department has recently acquired the records of Rehabilitation Department, Haryana (1946-1956) relating to claims and allotments. It has also in its custody rare manuscripts in Sanskrit, Persian, Urdu relating to Ayurveda, Religion and Astrology etc.
